Thoughts on the Wacom Cintiq Tablet

1) Why did you decide that you need a tablet?
The Wacom Cintiq 12WX is my first and only tablet. Before it I scanned in my drawings and added color in Photoshop but I always wanted to make my art completly digital. Once I decided to buy one I knew I wanted to be able to see the screen as I was working.
2) Why did you choose Wacom Cintiq 12WX?
I had tried a “normal” tablet that didn’t show the screen in it and it never felt quite right, it felt unnatural for me. Drawing directly on the screen sounded much more appealing to me. I knew the wacom cintiq 12WX was just what I was looking for, but the fact of the matter was I couldn’t aford one. So I applied for a scholarship through the art school I was studying at and got it! I used the whole scholarship and a little out of my own pocket to buy it.
3) Is the quality of Wacom good as you expected it to be?
I have to say, this tablet, although expensive, is probably the best thing I’ve ever bought! I just love it! It works great and is as easy as drawing on paper. It has met my expectations and more!
4) Does it produce high enough quality?
Absolutely!
5) Are the shortcut keys really useful?
Absolutely there too. I frequently use the shortcut keys while drawing. I almost have no need for the keyboard while using it.
6) Would you consider advising other digital artists to buy it?
Oh yes, of course! For me it’s the only way to draw digitally now! I would recommend it to anybody who uses a tablet. There’s no way it could do anything but improve your art.
7) How much did you pay for it? Was it worth the cost?
I bought my Cintiq factory refurbished, so it was much less expencive than normal. I think I got it for about $800. Like I said I won a scholarship to pay for it, but I could have gotten a lot of other stuff for that money, but buying it is something I’ve never regretted. It is well worth every penny!
8 ) Is drawing on a Cintiq as natural as drawing on paper?
Nothing can quite replace the feel of pencil on paper, the somewhat rough texture of drawing that way is hard to replace, but it’s just about as close as you can get drawing digitally! But I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. I really like the smooth feel of drawing with the Cintiq and how easy it is to control the lines thickness. I had practically never used a tablet before I got my Wacom Cintiq 12WX and it felt completely natural right away! It’s really easy to use.
9) What is the biggest disadvantage about the Wacom Cintiq?
Hm, I don’t know. Can’t think of any.
10) Has the Wacom Cintiq changed the way you create your digital work?
Yes, very much! It has opened up a whole new way of drawing for me. It felt like my art went up a notch in quality after getting it. I feel like I got a really good start by getting the Wacom Cintiq 12WX as my first tablet. Now there are endless possibilities to creating exactly what I want to show, not being limited to just what one can do with pen and paper.
