The Magic of Using Google SketchUp and Photoshop Together
Posted on 22. Jul, 2010 by DAS Team in Articles, Tutorials
Hello DAS readers, I’m Wenjuinn. I will roughly explain how I created “Flood City” by using both Google Sketchup 7 and Photoshop.
I started out by placing the building blocks with random sizes in Google SketchUp. The blocks were randomly placed. After I was satisfied with with the arrangement, I was then searching for the best camera angle. Once I found the angle I was comfortable in, I then exported the image into a jpeg file.
After the export, I opened the jpeg file in Photoshop. Since the perspective is already adjusted in Google Sketchup, you can’t change any angles anymore. The 3D blocks are now guidelines for me to add more detail in them. I first try to experiment with different color moods. After I was satisfied with it, I started to paste some building textures on the blocks, so it gave me a rough idea on how the painting will look like. Start painting or paste the textures over the 3D blocks. Slowly build up the overall look of the city, and start gradually filling in the details.
I got my textures from www.cgtextures.com
Below are my progress shots. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Thanks you

Great art! I myself also do photoshop/sketchup art modeling!
Sometimes I use Vue Infinite to render out environment for the created objects, like lights and atmosphere. Nice to see that you also do something like this!
