Tools of the Trade

Hello guys its Ash back again. Long time no post i know, just got a little busy with university work. Today i want to talk with you about the tools of the trade for digital art. What tools do you need in order to become a successful digital artist? You want to be very wise about spending your money because you don’t want to be spending thousands of dollars on tools you don’t need. What i want to pin-point in this article are three simple essentials that you will need to get started.

1) A Graphic Tablet.

I can’t emphasis how important it is to have a digital tablet. The market has a ton of them, but all you need is a good high quality tablet. Check the pressure sensitivity levels to be a minimum of a 1000 (For more information about which graphic tablet to buy check out Which Graphic Tablet Should I Buy? article).  Using a mouse can create artwork that is very inaccurate, so it’s important that you would have a good tablet that would help you create art with ultimate ease.

2) A Good Software.

A must have software is Photoshop. I can’t emphasis how great this software is It simply lets you create what’s on your mind. Whether you are a 2D or 3D artist, Photoshop will help you create amazing touches to your work. There are other alternatives for Photoshop of course, such as Corel Painter for example, but I think Photoshop is the BEST digital art editing software out there. If you are a 3D artist, you may have to change your priorities a little bit. You might need 3ds max for example more importantly than Photoshop since that is what you are going to use most of the time. As a digital artist, you must know what kind of art are you willing to create and that will decide on what software you will need. But whether you are  a 2D or 3D artist, at one point you will need Photoshop.

3) Showcase Platform.

You are creating digital art so it’s already on your computer. You would want a website that would help share your art with the world. Sharing the process of creating the art itself is also a great way to hear some good feedback. It’s good to hear the critics of other digital artists so that you can improve your work. Sharing your Art even when it’s done is a rewarding experience as well as an educating one. You can send your art to digitalartsecrets.com and they can publish it for you ;)

These are three basic necessities that you will need to get started with your digital art journey. If you have any questions, leave me a comment below and i’ll get right back to you. Thanks guys ;)

Why is Shop better than Painter? Can you offer details as to why? I am curious.
