5. When have you started Digital Art? What was your motivation?
I started on Digital Art when I was 18. Mainly doing photo manipulations at first. My motivation came from seeing so many amazing artworks while surfing the internet. I saw them and told myself I wanted to try creating digital art.

6. What other forms of Art do you create other than Digital drawings?
Every once in a while I’ll work on a traditional art piece, mostly pencil drawings. I’ve been recently doing some photography as well. I also do graphic art for web sites.

I like video games, music, animation & film.

8. Have you taken any formal education in Art or Graphic Design?
No, I have not. I am actually a self-taught artist.

9. What kind of Graphic Tablet do you use?
I use a Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet.

10. Is there a specific message you try to portray in your artwork?
I don’t really try to portray any message. What I create really depends in the mood I’m in. When I first started in digital art most of my artwork was fantasy related but later on I moved on to a bit of sci-fi. Now I am doing portraits. What I focus on more when I am working on an artwork is on the technical side of it. Every time I am creating something new I challenge myself to create something more and more complex. I just enjoy working on complex artwork because I always learn something new.

11. Are there any artists out there who influence or inspire you?
There are many artists who I admire actually but my inspiration comes from personal experiences, something I have seen, have been told or read. Some of the artists I admire are Michael Kutsche, Tuna Ferit HidayetoÄŸlu, Emile Noordeloos, Chen Wei , Dirk Dzimirsky, Dorian Iten, Jason Chan, Diane Ă–zdamar, Olivier Ponsonnet, Natascha Roeoesli, Henning Ludvigsen and so many others. The list is very long.

12. If you would give one tip for digital artists out there, what would it be?

There are many artists out there trying to paint realistic looking characters. Some are very skeptical about using reference when trying to paint their characters but if you are just starting in digital art start off by using reference. It educates your mind and will help you a lot in the learning process of drawing the human figure. Later on you will find yourself starting off a painting without using any photos because you’ve practiced so much that it will become easier for you to draw eyes, a nose, lips, etc. This is my advise to those starting in digital painting.

As for those who are into photo manipulation. Focus a lot and try to master shadows and light. This will help you blend all photos in a seamless way making your photo manipulations believable.

13. Do you have a Digital Art Secret?
I don’t know if it could be considered a secret but I always pay close attention to details even to the tiniest ones. In the end they make a big difference ;-)

14. If there are any clients out there who want to contact you, how can they reach you?
If there are any clients who want to contact me, they can do so by writing to my e-mail info@cristianlandero.com
